5 Easy Ways to Veganize Your Everyday Life

Thursday, September 6, 2018

As I've previously mentioned, it took me 14 years to go vegetarian, and then another nearly 14 years after that to go vegan. That being said, I truly, fully, deeply understand the need for some of us to go plant-based in steps. Therefore, today I am sharing some simple ways to "veganize" your daily life because any progress forward is better than none at all!

1.) Stop buying clothing, furniture, etc. that contains animal byproducts

For me, my first step into vegandom was going plant-based in my diet. Shortly after I followed suit in my entire lifestyle by only purchasing cruelty-free items and the like. This included no longer buying leather, suede, etc. Today's faux versions of these materials are just as pretty and last a long time - but best of all, they don't involve animals being skinned and killed!

2.) Purchase only cruelty-free products

Certain products, such as cosmetics and cleaning supplies, conduct tests on animals. These tests are extremely painful (and totally unnecessary). You can vote with your dollar each time you shop by no longer supporting the companies who partake in these outdated practices. *Looking for an easy way to see which brands are cruelty-free? Use the Logical Harmony website to check in a matter of seconds!*

3.) Switch out meat and dairy products for substitutes

I get it. Meat and cheese products taste good to a lot of people. But when you actually think about the fact that they come from innocent bodies, we quickly realize that is gross and directly causes extensive harm (and in the case of meat, death) to the animals they come from. If you're not ready to totally transition to a plant-based diet, start with just a day or two per week, such as Meatless Mondays or eating veg only on the weekends. There are so many delicious and affordable "fake" meats, milk, cheeses, ice creams, butter, and even eggs (!) these days that contribute to less suffering of animals and our planet. Some of the easiest to find crowd favorite brands include Gardein, Follow Your Heart, So Delicious, Miyoko's Creamery, and even Trader Joe's! (See some of my personal go-tos here and here.)

4.) Support your local veg-friendly businesses

Even if you're not totally vegan yet you can still patron your local plant-based and cruelty-free companies! Show your support for their animal saving missions by spending your hard-earned money at their establishments. My all-time favorite restaurants have been the vegan spots we've discovered in Southern California. (See some of our most visited here. I am serious - their food is better than any I've ever had in my lifetime. And all the better that they don't pay for any suffering in their supply chain!)

5.) To all my fellow Californians: Vote YES on Prop 12 in the November election!

This one isn't necessarily about veganizing your life; however, I included it since it is a super simple way to help improve the welfare of certain farm animals. You can learn more about this ballot measure here.

Would you advise starting with a free platform like Wordpress or
go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I'm totally confused ..
    Any suggestions? Kudos!
